TWILIGHT actress NIKKI REED is sinking her teeth into a new line of work – as a music video director.
The 21-year-old star, who plays bloodsucker Rosalie Hale in the vampire film franchise, fears she’ll struggle to land acting jobs when her work on the series ends. So she’s diversifying in a bid to increase her job options.
Reed explains, “I don’t think I’m going to be an actor forever. Unfortunately, with time and age your career slows down. It’s just a fact. But I’m directing for the first time in a week (begs23Nov09)… I’m directing a little music video for a friend of mine who’s a wonderful musician, her name is Sage.”

Monday night’s New Moon premiere in Los Angeles was like déjà vu for many of the stars of the film, who walked the same red carpet a year ago at the premiere of their blockbuster hit, Twilight. But Nikki Reed says she feels drastically different this time around, thanks to boyfriend Paris Latsis.
“When you date someone who loves the outdoors, it’s inspiring,” says the actress, who portrays vampire Rosalie Hale in the movie. “I’ve learned from my boyfriend. I’ve taken on his lifestyle.”
And that’s a good thing. Reed, 21, who has been dating Latsis, 27, since this summer, was so inspired by his love of outdoor sports that she quit smoking. “Instead of gaining weight, I lost weight,” she says. “I started going to the gym and taking care of myself. I’m into outdoor sports like hiking, windsurfing, water-skiing. I’m much more active and much happier.”
She’s also much more accustomed to the hoards of screaming Twilight fans who camped out for as many as five days to increase their chances of meeting the film’s stars. “Last year, I was like, hyperventilating. I don’t want to say I’ve gotten used to it, but my palms aren’t sweating as much,” she says. “I love walking up to my fans and saying, ‘Thank you for coming.’ It’s more real.”

The holy Trinity of “Twilight” (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner) aren’t the only “New Moon” stars heating up magazine pages this month. The sequel’s second couple, Rosalie Hale and Emmett Cullen (also known as Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz), posed for some fiercely fashionable shots in Nylon, dishing to the magazine about the Saga’s unexpected success, how “Twilight” has changed their lives (think: disguises!) and cast switcheroos.
“We were just making a little independent film in Portland,” Nikki said of the movie that changed her life. “I don’t know what happened. We’ve lived this entire year in shock.” But along with the Saga’s staggering success has come constant fan and paparazzi attention, something Kellan goes to great lengths to avoid.
“I used to love going to local high school football games near my house,” he told the mag. “And I can’t really go there anymore, without being wise.” And by wise he means, in disguise! Though he wouldn’t divulge his go-to get-up to Nylon (for obvious reasons) he did describe a now-failed costume. “I wanted to walk around Comic-Con this year, so I dressed kinda homeless. But someone recognized me and posted it online. I was like, ‘Thanks. Now I can’t wear that again.’”
Another consequence of the franchise’ popularity were some tough casting choices, including whether to keep Taylor in his break-out role as Bella’s bud Jacob Black. Both Nikki and Kellan couldn’t help but gush about the transformation the 17-year-old underwent to secure the role.
“He devoted himself to that transformation for a year,” Nikki recalled. “But it’s not even about how he looks—although he is gorgeous and sexy and shirtless for most of the film. He’s just so, so good as Jacob. And he can handle the pressure.” Kellan couldn’t agree more: “There was a concern about Taylor, as Jacob is bigger and stronger in the second book. But he hit the gym and gained 30 pounds of muscle. He looks amazing.” Coming from beefy Kellan, that’s quite the compliment indeed.
One actress producers did decide to replace was Rachelle Lefevre, who plays vamp Victoria. In a move deemed controversial by many Twilighters, Bryce Dallas Howard was cast in the part for the Saga’s third film “Eclipse.” Nikki says Bryce is flourishing in her new role. “Bryce is handling it like a champion,” she said. “She’s beautiful, talented, and a wonderful addition.”

“There was an interview where somebody asked me how I was feeling at that moment with everything that was going on with ‘Twilight,’ and I said, ‘You know? I’m really devastated right now, because I have never heard the amount of criticism and hurt and pain from some things that I’ve read going on the Internet [about me] right now, like, ‘She’s fat’ and ‘She’s ugly’ and ‘She’s not blond’ and ‘She’s supposed to be the most beautiful girl in the world?’ and ‘Couldn’t they cast someone who was remotely beautiful?’ It’s like, thank God I’m not so callous that I’m totally desensitized, but I am sensitive and that really hurt my feelings.”
-”Twilight” and “New Moon” star Nikki Reed, admitting that she is engaged in the online fervor surrounding the vampire-centric film series. The actress was responding to a question posed by a reader on the site as a part of the ongoing series of “Twilight” stars answering fan questions. She also added that though the thought has crossed her mine, she doesn’t get involved in the Internet rumors herself. “I’ve joked with Kristen [Stewart] a few times about how tempted we are to defend ourselves. But there’s no point,” she said. “For every one person who says something, you always hear about the squeaky wheel or the plane that crashes. There might be a person that is really mean, but [you hear about them, not] the million people that say really nice things.”
“New Moon,” the second film in the series, hits theaters on November 20, and you can stay tuned to MTV News, MTV Movies and Hollywood Crush for all the latest insider information, cast interview, exclusive clips and fan reactions.

Q: In “New Moon,” Rosalie is the one who tells Edward that Bella has died. Do you think that Edward had a right to know, or do you personally think it was none of her business to tell him?
Reed: I am always going to come to Rosalie’s defense and say that she wasn’t just trying to hurt him. I mean, he is her brother and she does love him. She felt bad for how she has treated their entire relationship, and maybe it was her way of taking the initiative and wanting to be the one to break the news to him. She wasn’t lying to him; this is what Alice thought and what she told Rosalie. So Rosalie felt the need to break the news to Edward.
